What is the difference between a hard launch and a soft launch?

What is the difference between a hard launch and a soft launch? A soft launch means releasing the product quietly -- often to a small group of beta users or on a single channel -- with limited public announcement. A hard launch is a coordinated, public-facing release that uses every available channel (socials, directories, press, email list, Product Hunt) on the same day to maximize day-one visibility.

Most SaaS products benefit from a soft launch to beta users first, then a hard launch once the product is stable and you have gathered enough social proof and testimonials. The hard launch creates the shareable moment and the traffic spike; the soft launch builds the foundation that makes that moment land credibly.

There is no rule against running both: a quiet listing on directories during soft launch means search indexing has already started when the hard launch begins.
